Benefits of pranayama in yogic sciences dates back to 1000 years.

kid meditating yoga blog

There are many types of pranayama that has different benefits on our whole system. Below are these 8 types that are fruitful in your respiratory tracks and has other fantastic benefits on your body.

  1. Nadi Sodhana
  2. Shitali Pranayama
  3. Ujjayi Pranayama
  4. Kapalabhati Pranayama
  5. Bhastrika Pranayama
  6. Bhramari Pranayama
  7. Anuloma & Viloma Pranayama
  8. Sheetkari Pranayama

Let us understand first what is Pranayama – it is a Sanskrit word that means control of breath. And in yogic sciences yogis said it is prayan – the bio life and yaam is asnaa. So it is asan for life. In pranayama, we consciously control our breathing through various breathing techniques as it is a meditative practice.

The type of breathing techniques in pranayama is divided into three stages: Inhalation through the nose (Purak), retention (kumbak) and exhalation (Rechak). These breathing techniques are not only used in yoga practices but also in meditative practices. The rhythm of pranic energy can be controlled through pranayama. They are useful in all forms of meditation.

1 – The best among all which you can do for lung exercise is Kapalabhati Pranayama – also called as a breath of fire.

This type of pranayama is done by forcefully exhaling from the lungs and inhaling is done involuntarily. The exhalation should be so forceful that one should suck the belly by releasing the air. In the same way, when inhaling is done, the belly should go back to the same position. Usually, Kapalabhati Pranayama is done for warm-up. This cycle of inhalation and exhalation should be done for few minutes. This type of pranayama is quite beneficial in strengthening the diaphragm and abdominal muscles. It also helps in increasing focus, reducing anxiety and burning calories.

6 – Bhramari Pranayama

Clinically it is being proven that this type of pranayama is effective in increasing lung capacity and respiration. It is also being said that the biochemist is researching this yogic practice as it has a tremendous capacity to decrease the spread of microbes in the lungs. Why, as it increases the nitrous oxide in our lungs. It is also said that eating a nitrous rich diet curb the spread of any virus in our lungs. As it has anti-viral property, it reduces replication of the virus thus it stops the spreading. Sit at a steady place, intact, close your ears, with thumbs, and eyes with your fingers. Then create a humming sound or you can also chant om sound while exhaling. This is also known as ‘humming bee breath’. Do it for 5 minutes daily morning and evening. It also helps in increasing concentration, alertness, relieving stress.

3 – Anuloma & Viloma Pranayama

This pranayama is divided into two stages: Paused inhalation and paused exhalation. It is done by inhaling for 2-3 seconds and pausing, then again restarting inhalation and pausing for few seconds while sitting in a comfortable position. Inhalation should be done until the lungs are full of air. Exhalation must be done slowly. One must relax the mind and body. This is Viloma Pranayama where pausing of breathing is in regular intervals. In anuloma pranayama, one must breathe nostrils in an alternative way. Both are similar. These techniques help in relaxing, reducing stress and cleansing nasal passages.

4 – Yogendra Prayanam no. 4 –  it is the best for diaphragmatic breathing.

It induces relaxation and letting go of the vairagya bhava. It will give you immense calmness and self-discipline. Lay down on the mat and place right hand on the navel and left on the side of the body, palm facing to the sky, legs fold and maintain equal breathing. Do not do force breathing. If you observe that the belly will rise and go down to the spine with exhaling. It is one of the natural ways of breathing. It is deep breathing practice – do it 10 times before sleeping or before Shavasana. It is effective in relaxation and stress reliever.

World Book Day | Encourage to Share a Story | Bookshelf

This year the theme for World book day is – share a story. It is apt, as all of us have ample stories and experiences to share. This is the 24th year that the event has been held. It comes around on the first Thursday of March every year, in the UK. This day is also acknowledged globally in over 100 countries across the world. Other countries celebrate World Book Day on William Shakespeare‘s birthday – April, 23.

Read a book daily

What’s happening this year?

Due to Corona Virus Pandemic things are quite silent this year. Everything is virtual and webinars are held online. There is hardly anything happening offline. Books are offered for just £1 – through book tokens, and they can be used to buy one of the exclusive books on offer through the scheme or used to buy a full-price book or audiobook that costs £2.99 or more. Kids are also being encouraged to share their stories with one another and prizes are on offer for the best. A selection of free audiobooks are also on offer, which launched on February 18. A Book Club is also being launched in March 2021.

Woman who reads and travel

On this note a quick tips for kids on how you inculcate them to read more and share more. Let them share their stories and encourage them to become who they want to:
  • Create a reading area.
  • Read in front of your child
  • Make reading a daily habit.
  • Create a reading space.
  • Take trips to the library.
  • Let your child pick what to read.
  • Re-read favorite books.
  • Find reading moments in everyday life.
Remember: READING SHOULD BE FUN, NOT FRUSTRATING!

Germany has banned the sale of fireworks

From New York’s Times Square to Sydney Harbor, big public blowouts have been turned into TV-only shows and digital events, reported The Associated Press.

Fireworks displays have been cancelled from the Las Vegas Strip to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Even private parties in some places are restricted.

Toughening the Covid-19 restrictions in parts of England owing to the “sheer pace” of the spread of a new variant of the virus, Prime Minister Boris Johnson Wednesday urged people to stay at home on New Year’s eve to contain the outbreak.

In India, Delhi has announced a night curfew on New Year’s eve restricting more than five people to assemble at a public place.

According to the order, no celebratory events, congregations and gatherings at public places are permitted from 11 pm of December 31 to 6 am of January 1, 2021.

Bengaluru, too, has imposed Section 144 from 6 pm of December 31 to 6 am of January 1, 2021.

In Maharashtra, while hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars will close at 11 pm and large gatherings are prohibited in public places, families can hold parties in residential places provided it is a small group and social distancing norms are maintained.

In Ahmedabad, the restrictions will be effective between 10 pm, Thursday 31st and 6 am Friday 1st Jan. The police has restricted hotels from hosting any late night parties on New Year Eve on Thursday.

On December 27, the Goa airport handled 72 arrivals and 72 departures with more than 11,000 passengers arriving and nearly an equal number departing, the highest traffic since the lock down and 85% of the pre-Covid levels.

We ready for you!

I just hope that this year bring ample love and kindness. May the world witness empathy and generosity in abundance. Be Blessed!

It has a deep legend linked to the Pandavas, heroes of the Mahabharata epic as well. It is built of solid granite slabs, and also resembles the ancient temple of Bageshwar and Jageshwar.

The architecture of Tunganath Temple

The affluent temple is made up of stones embellished with decorations that are coated on the outside paintings of the tall towers. There is a wooden stage exactly on top of the highest dome which also has sixteen openings. The roof of the temple is formed of stone slabs and at the entrance lays a stone image of Nandi facing towards the idol of Lord Shiva. There is an image of Lord Ganesha also on the right side of the temple gate.

Inside the main chamber lies the ashtadhatu which is comprised of eight metals, idols of saint Vyas and Kala Bhairav and the followers of Lord Shiva. There are images of the Pandavas and four other Kedar shrines inside the temple as well. At the end of the trek path of Tungnath, the opening door of the temple is marked with the presence of the name ‘Tungnath’ painted atop an archway which has recently been constructed.

The soul is your guru #gurupurnima – The awakening

Connecting to your real guru in life is a tough job, many of you’ all would relate to what I meant to say here. We all go, behind the delusion of finding our real guru in life, who would guide us and show us a path of peace and nirvana. Today we are living in a world of uncertainty where things change with a blink. However, we all keep on trying to mould ourselves to these abrupt changes but we get shaken up and get disturbed with the consequences. What we shall do then? Here what is crucial to know Is that we seek guidance and perseverance to overcome this turbulence in life. And that’s when we need to have a Guru in our lives.

How do we achieve, how do we find one, is all our destiny and luck? We get whatever is stored for us.

On the advent of Guru Purnima here’s what I feel one should know

According to me and my life’s experience, your ultimate guru is your soul. Yes, the soul which is immortal and is spiritual to the almighty. This inner voice is your world, within you, which balance your mind and heart. Now if we can figure out a way to connect directly with our soul we will be shining like a star forever. Which though in real life seem to be a tough one. As we all live in Kalyug today, this window of pure connection hazes. But mark my words – as the spiritual master is someone who is master of all the inner worlds. The one who’s consciousness is at the highest level and mingles tremendously with the outer world.

meditation blog

The whole idea is to awaken the soul by putting all our energies into one manifold which is our inner realms. For many of us, our soul is dormant for ages but we can ignite it with all our mental capacities and meditation. The soul is the God Like element which resides inside the Anahata centre – the heart chakra, that is in the centre of the chest and a little above.

Here’s a variation – one person’s soul may represent peace, another’s power, another can be joy and so forth. One can attain it all because if we master our soul to be our guru we have free access to the world’s power. This will eventually lead us to master the disciplines of the conscious mind.

SnakeMeditation - guru purnima

One can attain this balance by meditation. There are many other theories and therapies to attune the same. But meditation is the only matchmaker that can bridge the gap between your soul and outer world. It is like picking the generous wave, of the Guru’s mindfulness or like the dab of the thought merging for some time with the ocean waves. It is said that disciple is the key to everything in life and when you achieve it through meditation – Guru automatically appears. your heart and breath is your spiritual family which link it to your soul – the ultimate Guru
