The circumstances which we are facing are unexpected, which neither of us has dreamt off. A few months back we were thinking about what are our plans for 2020, what we will do and what not? And suddenly something like this comes up and we, totally unprepared, are thrown into it. And it’s not only we but also kids are stuck in these situations. Below are some of the things and activities that I’m suggesting to keep kids engaged during the lockdown.

kids during lockdown

Make Timetable – We should ask kids to make a time table for themselves. And when they are making the time table we have to emphasize that they have to keep some time for learning new things daily, be it anything but it should be of their interest. And ask them to keep everything in the time table even the smallest of things like eating food etc.

Involve them in House Chores – Make sure that you involve kids in one of the house chore activity. In this way, they will be able to understand how mom-dad does these activities and also will understand the importance of small things. Also, you need to appreciate them when they are doing it so that they will feel proud of it and in the future, they give importance to each and every work without thinking or looking at any work as downgraded.

Make Reading and Writing a Habit– Force your kids to read and write daily for even a few minutes. Once this habit is inculcated in them they will automatically understand the importance of learning. In this way, they are developing very important habit which will help them in the long run.

Play with them – As a parent, it has become very tough for each of us to give time to our kids. I know everyone must be thinking that it should be easy but all those who have started working from home and can easily relate to this where, when you go to the office you can spare more time which has started becoming more and more difficult due to work pressures, especially being at a home lot more work is expected then what it used to be. Having said all this, I would still suggest please take some time out and just be with them. Do what they want to do without asking questions, become like them. This might give a break to you which you also need and they will be happy too.

Create a To-Do list – Ask your kid to make a to-do list and tell them that be creative as much as you can. Once they create a list stick it in their room and ask them out of these what all you can do being at home. Help them in doing whatever is possible at home and when they are doing all these please don’t scold or shout at them when they are making house dirty as even they are facing same as you are and somehow trying to cope with this, though they are small to understand a lot of what is happening and why?

love kids during lockdown

Reading Newspaper – If you are getting e-paper to ask them to read the newspaper daily. This will help them in understanding what is going around the world and ask them to keep a dictionary with them so whenever they are stuck they can check the meaning of it. In this way, their vocabulary will also improve.

Look for Broken Things in Home – Ask them to check which all things are broken in the house be it their toy or anything. Then ask them if you need to repair it, how will you go about it. Tell them to try repairing these things. If some of the things are repaired then your task is done, if not then also at-least they tried to do something which was constructive and you should be happy about it.

engage kids with activities

These are some of the things that I think can be done which not only will keep kids busy but also elated and engaged. People are hardly talking about these times when it is taking a toll on mental health as well on an individual. And this can happen with kids as well so we have to be double careful since if it is easy to take care of stuff when it is physical then mentally. I know these are tough times for all of us including our kids but trust me these times will pass and then we will think that why we have not utilised it to the fullest.

Yoga means the addition of energy, strength, and beauty. It gives sync to body, mind and soul. Read this small blog on the advent of International Yoga Day 2018.

International Yoga Day - Spirited Blogger

Here’s again we are celebrating International Yoga Day in India and all across the world. What is that so significant which has made Yoga so important to mark it as an international event which is celebrated by all the cadre of societies? International yoga day has been a global event which is now celebrated in the schools and every other gathering. Each year it marks an additional progress in spreading the practice and study of Yoga and its acceptance into schools, businesses and all walks of life, nationally and internationally. It is important to keep this impetus going as Yoga holds the secrets to the transformation of the human being to a higher level of awareness.

Yoga is India’s greatest civilizational gift that exists with us dating back to 5000 years. One of the oldest and purest forms of practice to blend your soul with your mind, eventually that rejuvenate your heart is from India. Thus, it is is very important for India to continue to nourish its roots and spread out to the world. Yoga is of many forms which prevail in different parts of our country. It has significance in India’s culture and traditions respective of which religion you belong to or from which part of India you are from. It is widespread from a local village to a broad national level. This also includes a yogic influence on music, art, dance, science, philosophy, medicine, politics and economics, including the entire spiritual realm where Yoga always outshines. Skill in action, focus on sensitivity, the unitary path of energy, the fortitude of effort, and brilliance in achievement, along with inner equanimity and tranquil are all aspects of Yoga.

Yoga ascends from nature and instils in our minds to live in harmony with the Earth and the stars. It is not just simply a manmade or historical invention, but it is a medium of integration into the cosmic life. Yoga is characteristically a biological pursuit and endorses environmental awareness, disquiet for the environment, reverence for the Earth and all of its creatures, large and small. Yoga affords us an earthly vision in which we look at the world as a whole, not divided into contradictory countries and communities.

Another aspect of the awareness and popularity of Yoga is the common sight to see people walking around with beautiful sling bags, over their shoulders in a variety of patterns, with their yoga mats. And, the extraordinary popularity of this ancient knowledge is apparent from the number of yoga studios escalating around the world. Tactlessly, with yoga being a billion dollar industry now, it is not infrequent to find new styles of yoga being introduced every other day. Hence, the other side of the coin is that building even more awareness on all the other forms and methods of Yoga has also become really important so that the roots of the ancient yoga and its philosophies remain intact.

Due to all the above points which we discussed in this International Yoga Day blog a step towards the right direction was taken back on December 11, 2014, when United Nation decided to dedicate 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. We are thankful for the initiative of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. This is helping to spread the awareness but is also providing a platform for the organisations, institutes and practitioners to dedicated their lives to imparting the authentic system of yogic practices and showcase it to the masses.

Yoga is not a religion it’s a way of life!

yoga

It’s was last year in 2015 we experienced gigantic celebration of International Yoga Day and now we are ready to welcome 2016 – The inception of International Yoga Day was officially announced by Hon PM of India, Narendra Modi, the nation floated with cheerfulness and pride. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014, almost unanimously. What a proud moment for India and the entire population.

India’s civilization is considered to be one of the oldest on the globe. With reigns of Mughals, Marathas and Harappan civilization and much more – India has seen dramatically diverse cultures and traditions, which are still prevalent. Talking about International Yoga Day!

“Yoga is a journey of life discovering one self and all the inner energies!  It is a priceless gift of India’s ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It exemplifies unity of mind and body; thought and action; self-possession and fulfillment; accord between human and nature; a holistic approach towards the health of the well-being. Yoga is not just about shedding some weight or burning calories, but it is to explore pure sense of oneness with yourself and sync with the world and the beautiful nature”

In the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there is a separate department for the Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy. This department is named AYUSH, has now become a ministry, with a stated aim of ‘Providing focused attention to development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy…and Homoeopathy systems.

AYUSH covers traditional Indian practices for physical, mental and spiritual well being, encompassing medicine, a focus on health and plants and minerals. In the 2015-2016 Indian budgets, the AYUSH Ministry was provided with roughly $191M, out of a total budget of roughly $5.2B for the healthcare sector. This figure is commendable and shows the concern towards health and well-being on our country. (The extract is taken from authentic sources of AYUSH and Ministry of Heath)

I remember days when I used to get up as early as dawn to practice Yoga to revive my senses and bring energy for the entire coming day. Yoga helped me to gain morale and mental strength. It made my life stress-free and flexible. You must be wondering why I’m writing about me here, it’s because if I can benefit from this wonderful science and one of the oldest form of exercise in India, why others can’t. Therefore, even if this “choti si koshish” doesn’t appeal you, my request is to practice Yoga daily for at least 30 minutes to live a healthier lifestyle for you and your loved ones.
