Maha Shivaratri or the ‘Great Night of Lord Shiva’ is one of the most significant festivals for Hindus across the world. The fourteenth day of every lunar month or the day before the new moon is known as Shivaratri.

Among all the twelve Shivaratris that occur in a calendar year, Mahashivratri, the one that occurs in February-March is of the most spiritual significance.

Mahashiavratri is very significant for people who are on the spiritual path. for the ascetics, it is the day he became one with Mount Kailash. He became like a mountain – absolutely still. In the yogic tradition, Shiva is not worshipped as a God, but considered as the Adi Guru, the first Guru from whom the science of Yoga originated.

The Tungnath Mandir in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand is considered the highest Shiva temple in the world and the most scared. Tunganath (literal meaning: Lord of the peaks) mountains form the Mandakini and Alaknanda river valleys. It is located at an altitude of 3,680 m (12,073 ft), and just below the peak of Chandrashila. The temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old and is the third (Tritiya Kedar) in the of the Panch Kedars.

The Adiyogi statue is a 34-metre-tall (112 ft), 45-metre-long (147 ft) and 25-metre-wide (82 ft) steel statue of the Hindu deity Shiva with Thirunamam at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the “Largest Bust Sculpture” in the world.

The oldest Hindu temple known is Mundeshwari Temple – It is an ancient temple dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Shakti and is considered one of the oldest Hindu temples in India. It is also considered as the oldest functional Hindu temple of India. It is in Kaimur district of Bihar.

It has been an official subject of archaeological study for some time now, dating certain inscriptions to 635 CE. The main deities in the temple are Devi Mundeshwari and the four-faced Shiva lingam.
