It’s was last year in 2015 we experienced gigantic celebration of International Yoga Day and now we are ready to welcome 2016 – The inception of International Yoga Day was officially announced by Hon PM of India, Narendra Modi, the nation floated with cheerfulness and pride. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014, almost unanimously. What a proud moment for India and the entire population.

India’s civilization is considered to be one of the oldest on the globe. With reigns of Mughals, Marathas and Harappan civilization and much more – India has seen dramatically diverse cultures and traditions, which are still prevalent. Talking about International Yoga Day!

“Yoga is a journey of life discovering one self and all the inner energies!  It is a priceless gift of India’s ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It exemplifies unity of mind and body; thought and action; self-possession and fulfillment; accord between human and nature; a holistic approach towards the health of the well-being. Yoga is not just about shedding some weight or burning calories, but it is to explore pure sense of oneness with yourself and sync with the world and the beautiful nature”

In the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there is a separate department for the Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy. This department is named AYUSH, has now become a ministry, with a stated aim of ‘Providing focused attention to development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy…and Homoeopathy systems.

AYUSH covers traditional Indian practices for physical, mental and spiritual well being, encompassing medicine, a focus on health and plants and minerals. In the 2015-2016 Indian budgets, the AYUSH Ministry was provided with roughly $191M, out of a total budget of roughly $5.2B for the healthcare sector. This figure is commendable and shows the concern towards health and well-being on our country. (The extract is taken from authentic sources of AYUSH and Ministry of Heath)

I remember days when I used to get up as early as dawn to practice Yoga to revive my senses and bring energy for the entire coming day. Yoga helped me to gain morale and mental strength. It made my life stress-free and flexible. You must be wondering why I’m writing about me here, it’s because if I can benefit from this wonderful science and one of the oldest form of exercise in India, why others can’t. Therefore, even if this “choti si koshish” doesn’t appeal you, my request is to practice Yoga daily for at least 30 minutes to live a healthier lifestyle for you and your loved ones.
